The Austrian artist Nicola Hackl-Haslinger refines her sensitive black-and-white nature portraits through precise manual interventions — often using 24-karat gold leaf. Through multiple exposures, subtle overlays, and nuanced tonal gradations, she creates works that oscillate between reality and poetic abstraction. Hackl-Haslinger’s photographs open up in-between spaces of light and shadow, revealing the fleeting qualities of nature. Her works are meditative, atmospheric, and intense, yet at the same time material in a sensual, almost tangible way. The presented series The Invitation metaphorically opens a portal to nature. Hackl-Haslinger shows how the passage from the ordinary to the sublime no longer takes place architecturally, but through a photographic- sculptural act — thus establishing a contemporary dialogue between photography, materiality, and symbolism.
